Two consumer product recalls issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have been linked to products that have been involved in hundreds of incidents.
This type of news reveals the importance of never ignoring equipment failure whether it’s associated with a vehicle or a consumer product. Too often, people are injured, and ignoring the risks puts us in danger.
The first recall announced by the CPSC is linked to Zipp 88 aluminum hubs that are used in bicycle heels. The impacted units have been known to expose consumers to personal injury risks. According to the official report, the hub flange ring that is part of the front hub can end up failing while in use. This problem could eventually lead to an accident, which could then lead to injury.
The thousands of units impacted were sold between October 2008 and December 2010. The products com in blue, gray, gold, red, or pink. They also come with the Z logo on the flange ring. Only the versions with the Z logo are impacted by the recall. About 12,000 units of these have been impacted.
This recall is associated with at least two incidents involving bicycles collapsing due to the front wheels’ failure. As a result of the two incidents, riders experienced bruises, stitches, and lacerations. In one of the cases, the rider experienced a concussion. Second Recall Impacted Over 400 Consumers
The CPSC indicated that ZETA battery packs have been associated with a recall that has been linked to over 400 incidents. The campaign was deemed necessary after the firm learned that the battery packs may suddenly overheat, which could cause it to split apart while in use. This problem could then cause the enclosure to melt and expose users or property to a fire incident.
Over 5,000 units of these battery packs were sold nationwide between July 2014 and January 2015. Impacted units of the ZETA battery packs were sold as ZETA by Jacko Pocket Jump Starter – Deluxe Set. The sets were sold with a black canvas case that comes with a black handle. The trim is red and the word ZETA is printed on the front of the case in blue and red letters. The set comes with mini jump clamps, 12V accessory cable, a universal cable for laptop charging and a USB adapter.
The impacted products were sold with the date code XM201407XXXXXX.
Consumers with the recalled products should not use the recalled Pocket Jump Starter associated with the kits. Reports of incidents included 487 reports involving the battery failing. At least two other reports involved fires prompted by the battery problem. According to the official reports, the fire resulted in property damage.
