The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently indicated that thousands of vehicles have been impacted by recalls issued by BMW and Mercedes-Benz over crash hazards.

According to the first announcement, Mercedes-Benz decided to launch a recall campaign after it was reported that the 2014 and 2015 Smart ForTwo coupes and convertibles as well as the electric versions of the 2014 ForTwo Coupe and ForTwo Convertible vehicles may have been fitted with certain steering gear mounting bolts that could suddenly break while the vehicle is in use.

The recall campaign was issued promptly after the problems were identified.

According to the official announcement issued by the company along with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles may fail to allow drivers to have total control over its handling due to steering gear mounting bolts issue, increasing the risk of an accident.

The official announcement issued by the company along with the federal agency has indicated that all impacted vehicles will be inspected for free at authorized dealers. The steering gear mounting bolts should be replaced also for free at authorized dealers in order to ensure the issue does not pose any accident risks to anybody.

Mercedes-Benz USA should soon be contacting all impacted vehicle owners, but although a notification schedule hasn’t been announced yet, consumers are being urged to contact MBUSA to have their concerns addressed.BMW Recall Impacts Nearly 100k VehiclesThe 91,800 units of the 2005 and 2006 MINI Cooper and Cooper S vehicles that were manufactured in the period between January 5, 2005 and November 28, 2006 as well as the 2005 through 2008 MINI Cooper Convertible and Cooper S Convertible vehicles that were manufactured between January 5, 2005 and July 31, 2008.The impacted vehicles associated with this recall have been produced with certain front passenger seat occupant detection systems that may fail to function the way they are supposed to work. Due to issues that may have stemmed from the manufacturing, installing process, or other exposure processes, the front passenger air bag may end up not deploying in the event of an accident.

This problem could increase the risk of a personal injury since the air bags may not deploy in time to protect the occupant from being hurt due to the impact.

Consumes with the recalled vehicles are being contacted by MINI so their vehicles are inspected and the front passenger seat occupant detection mats are replaced for free. While the company will only begin contacting consumers on May 1, 2015 over this recall, impacted MINI car owners are urged to go ahead and talk to the manufacturer to ask more details on what they should do to avoid personal injury until the issue is addressed.
