The year of 2015, some experts say, will not offer much in the way of surprise when it comes to auto recalls. If the latest reports concerning auto recalls are any indication, experts appear to be right.

The year has barely started but Ford has already issued a recall impacting vehicles designed in a way that may be confusing drivers. This issue could cause drivers to accidentally touch the vehicle’s push-button ignition button even as the vehicle is in use. This problem may be increasing the risk of accidents since pushing the button accidentally may end up causing the vehicle to come to a sudden halt.

According to Ford, vehicles impacted include the Lincoln MKC vehicles of the 2015 year make.

The SUVs come with a series of buttons to put the vehicles in different gears. The “S” button, which is used to place the vehicle in a sport mode, is close to the start-stop button. This proximity makes it easier for the driver to simply touch the wrong button accidentally, thus increasing the risk of an accident since the vehicle may come to a halt the second the motorist hits the brakes.

Ford has indicated that at least one owner reported that a passenger had accidentally touched the button while reaching for the system carrying the Bluetooth phone control, radio, and the navigation system, causing the vehicle to stop unexpectedly. Since this problem could eventually lead to accidents in future occasions, the firm decided to issue a recall so that the location of the start-stop button can be moved. This will also require the powertrain controls to be reprogrammed so that the problem can be fixed immediately.

While auto accidents involving this particular issue haven’t been registered with the company or the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall was deemed necessary.
