General Motors has recently issued its 79th recall for the year of 2014. As it stands, GM is the number one automaker as well as the company with the greatest number of auto recalls under its belt in 2014.

According to several news sources, the latest GM recall affects 273,182 Buick LaCrosse sedans and midsize SUV’s that were fitted with certain low-beam headlights that could fail to function for an undetermined period of time. In some cases, the headlights affected could cease to function permanently, exposing drivers to a serious accident risk due to the lack of visibility.

If the headlights cease to work correctly, other drivers may not see the oncoming cars, increasing then the risk of traffic accidents that could even turn out to be deadly.

Affected vehicles include the 2006 through 2009 LaCrosse sedans, 2006 and 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, 2006 TrailBlazer EXT, 2006 and 2007 GMC Envoy and 2006 Envoy XL, 2006 and 2007 Buick Rainier, 2006 through 2008 Saab 9-7X and the 2006 through 2008 Isuzu Ascender midsizer SUVs.

The 273,182 vehicles affected by this particular recall have been known to have been impacted by an issue with their headlamp driver modules. The problems are associated with the parts not functioning properly, which often cause the daytime running lamps and the low-beam headlamps to fail to illuminate. A permanent issue could be even more troublesome for drivers than the lights failing to function intermittently. According to GM, this issue does not affect turn signals, high-beam headlamps, or fog lamps.

The company hasn’t announced any accidents linked to these vehicles up to now, however, issues prompted by the headlamp driver modules in the affected units could lead to severe accidents if these issues are not addressed immediately. Cars affected by this recall include the over 200,000 units sold in the United States as well as others sold globally. GM announced that 316,357 vehicles were recalled globally.

General Motors has recalled 24.5 million cars this year alone, making the company the number one car maker when it comes to auto recalls.

While issues associated with the Takata air bags continue to push automakers like GM, Honda, and others to promote nationwide campaigns, GM continues to assess the damage caused by its earlier recall associated with the ignition switch defects known to have been responsible for at least 35 deaths in the last decade.

Vehicles impacted by safety recall should be fixed immediately. Delay in having these problems addressed boosts the risks, putting the lives of the drivers, their passengers, and others at major danger.
