The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently indicated that its last recall campaigns linked to the Takata air bags are being expanded over the risks associated with the safety features.

Unfortunately for many automakers that fit their vehicles with the Takata air bags, consumers were exposed to issues related to air bags that would explode once they deploy for years. The issue may have been discovered by Takata long before regulators in the United States were alerted. As a result, at least five deadly accidents were reported.

According to the official announcement published by the NHTSA, American Honda Motor Company, Inc. has added all units of the 2001 Accord vehicles, all units of the 2004 Civic vehicles, and all units of the 2008 Pilot vehicles are being added to the recall.

Since Honda was the automaker that had the greatest number of vehicles impacted by the Takata issue, many of its consumers doubt the company will be able to have all impacted vehicles fixed promptly.

Honda Expands Recall, But It’s Up To Takata To Provide Enough Fixes

The air bags the recently-recalled Honda vehicles were fitted with could explode when they deploy. Since the metal inflators inside the air bags may explode as well, occupants may be exposed to impact hazard associated with the flying metal parts. At least five deaths have already been associated with these air bag problems and many others could happen if consumers do not work with automakers to have the vehicles fixed.

Honda has indicated that all impacted vehicle owners are being contacted immediately so they know what they should do about their vehicles. All impacted cars will have their driver side frontal air bag inflators replaced for free in the near future.
