A series of news reports have been indicating that certain auto models have proven to be safer than others, and the reason why may surprise you.

The main report comes from a recent study published by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The insurance group used data pertaining to the 2011 and 2012 vehicle models to draw its conclusions. Based on the data brought forward, experts indicated that the overall death rate involving said models have actually fallen by more than a third from the latest study.

Safer Auto Models Save Millions Of Lives

The periodic study carried out by the IIHS indicated that at least nine models of vehicles had zero driver death rates between 2011 and 2012. This places the 2011 and 2012 model years in a list of vehicles with death rates that have fallen by more than a third from the previous study.

The driver death rates of vehicles from the previous study was 48. Recent studies indicated that the driver deaths per million within the 2011 and 2012 car models fell considerably. Their driver death rate is now 28. The official study learned that the Audi A4 4WD has a zero driver death per million. Some of the vehicles sharing Audy A4’s rates include the Honda Odyssey, Kia Sorento 2WD, Lexus RX 350 4WD, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class 4WD, Subaru Legacy 4WD, Toyota Highlander hybrid 4WD, Toyota Sequoia 4WD, and the Volvo XC90 4WD.

Despite the fact several models actually registered no deaths involving crashes, the gap between vehicles performing extremely well when it comes to safety and vehicles performing poorly has widened. Technology that avoids car accidents is now being widely used by automakers who are focused on developing better, safer auto models. While several vehicles still lack some of the most life-saving items available, many newer cars are already being fitted with crash avoidance techs that could soon be part of most mainstream models.

Some experts believe that this study is giving safety experts enough to celebrate. Nevertheless, this is just the beginning of a trend that should help to make more auto models much safer than ever in history.
