The official announcement indicates that the recalled vehicles include the 2006 and 2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx as well as the 2006 and 2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles. Recalled Chevy vehicles were manufactured between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 3006. Recalled Pontiac vehicles were manufactured between April 18, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

According to the official announcement, the impacted vehicles may experience a sudden loss of electric power steering assist while in use. This issue could easily take place while the vehicle is in use. In order to avoid accidents that could expose consumers to serious personal injury risks, General Motors decided to issue the recall right away.

GM has indicated that consumers with the recalled vehicles will be contacted soon. All impacted vehicles will have their torque sensor assembly replaced for free.
