Over 60K Vehicles Impacted By General Motors Recall

When it comes to vehicles recalls, we are already capable of noticing that 2015 is shaping up to be one tough year for automakers.

Following the year with the most number of recalls in recorded history, automakers are slowly beginning to learn more about how they should tweak certain processes to ensure their cars are safer. But while the change is underway, manufacturers still scramble to deal with issues associated with defective vehicles.

According to the latest report released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, General Motors has just recalled over 69,000 vehicles over issues that could lead to auto accidents. Since the risk must be addressed as soon as possible, consumers should not ignore this campaign.

The official announcement indicates that the recalled vehicles include the 2006 and 2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx as well as the 2006 and 2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles. Recalled Chevy vehicles were manufactured between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 3006. Recalled Pontiac vehicles were manufactured between April 18, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

According to the official announcement, the impacted vehicles may experience a sudden loss of electric power steering assist while in use. This issue could easily take place while the vehicle is in use. In order to avoid accidents that could expose consumers to serious personal injury risks, General Motors decided to issue the recall right away.

What Should You Do About This Recall?

According to the federal agency, consumers who are concerned about the risks associated with the defective parts should make sure to contact the automaker immediately. You can either contact Pontiac or Chevy, depending on what vehicle model is the one you own or drive regularly. The company has indicated that since the power steering assist could be lost unexpectedly, the driver would have to put more effort into steering the vehicle. This issue would cause the driver to lose some of the control over the vehicle while at lower speeds. This problem could eventually lead to an accident.

GM has indicated that consumers with the recalled vehicles will be contacted soon. All impacted vehicles will have their torque sensor assembly replaced for free. Owners should contact the dealers to have a visit scheduled as soon as possible. Make sure to have your vehicle fixed before any accident takes place.
