A recent truck accident left one dead and another injured when a semi-truck ran a red light and crashed into a pickup truck. Instead of stopping to help the accident victims, the semi-trucks driver detached the trailer from the cab and fled the scene. The semi truck’s cab was later found abandoned with no sign of its driver.
The aftermath of the Semi-Truck Accident
Police had to extricate the pickup truck’s passengers who were trapped while the vehicle they in which they traveled was wedged underneath the detached trailer. One passenger died on the spot while another was treated for minor injuries.
Initial investigation revealed that the truck is owned by a Texas-based produce company and that the truck was not stolen at the time of the incident. Eyewitnesses said that the semi-truck figured in a minor accident shortly before running a red light and colliding with the pickup truck. Investigators are not certain whether the truck driver was injured during the accident.
Depending on the circumstances of the truck accident, the owner of the truck and its driver may be liable for the injuries suffered by the pickup truck’s passengers.
What to Do after a Truck Accident
Truck accidents can cause severe injuries such as broken bones, head injury, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and lacerations. The outcome of a truck collision is often catastrophic due to the truck’s sheer size and weight which may significantly be heavier with cargo.
If you or a loved one is involved in a truck accident, your first step is to get immediate treatment for any injury or to undergo a thorough medical examination for the injury that may not be apparent. After attending to your injury, it’s important to consult an accomplished truck accident attorney who can determine whether you have a potential claim for compensation against negligent parties. Your lawyer can also sort important legal issues such as the potential responsibility of various parties including the truck driver, owner or operator, or vehicle manufacturer.
